The MFA Chronicles

A Mini-Breakthrough

Art is war. It truly is.

After many months contemplating American Pop! as a show about how to bridge political divides through our shared devotion to my favorite snack food, I concluded that like it or not the concept just doesn’t work. I’m not scrapping everything, but I did decide very recently that the premise falls flat. Even as I do believe political polarization is driving our country to the brink, I started to believe that a show like mine would only make matters worse (after all, suggesting that we live in an overly politicized world is itself a political argument of a sort).

In any event, I kicked my original outline of American Pop! to the proverbial curb and started back at square one. The good and bad news is that I had a class deadline pending, which forced me to write up a new outline and approach to my show. Well, I know there are yet miles to go, but I’m feeling pretty good about this framework - less politics, more popcorn, and an entirely new angle that includes an exploration of “hustle culture.”

I’m certain that American Pop! no longer fits as a title for this show. I might go with something a bit more related to the new theme: Gary Vee, Orville, and Me!

Don’t hold me to any of this, of course, but I do think I’m making progress.
